First Loisaida Fest Theater Lab

Anchored at La Plaza Cultural Community Garden, a full program of theater presentations and workshops will offer the audience the possibility to be a part of the creative process of play, partake in a vast range of theater workshops or sit down and enjoy a theater piece as a spectator.

Pregones Theater/ Puerto Rican Traveling Theater

Workshop: Voice Technique for Actors

Singer, actress and Pregones ensemble member, Shadia Almasri, will guide participants in the exploration of the vocal instrument in function of the actor’s vocal and musical needs throughut the creative process.

Workshop: Image Theater

Actor and Pregones ensemble member, Omar Perez, teaches the basics of the Image Theater Technique. Learn how to create and give power to images in function of a theater piece.

Leyma López

Workshop: Directing for non traditional spaces.

The theater director, Leyma Lopez will teach a basic theoretical approach to theater direction; then she will guide the participants to compare the essential concepts in an outdoors scenic non conventional space.

Yelimara Concepción y Mike Pacheco
Workshop: Afro-Inspira Bomba Dance

The Dance Therapy expert will give a Bomba Dance workshop that will show participants a glimpse of the therapeutic and performance possibilities of this ancestral afro caribbean movement expression.

 One-Eighth Theater
Workshop: Acting and Movement

Actress and one of the artistic directors of One-Eighth Theater, Laura Butler will use elements of Dalcroze, Meyerhold, Grotowsky and Labán to give an acting workshop focused on the body.

Caborca Theater
Workshop: iPlay Playwriting workshop

Antonio Gonzalez leads a series of prompts geared towards the creation of inspired, intricate and immediate writing for the theater. Those interested will co-write, edit, rehearse and perform a short piece inspired by epic plots and photographic writing.

Atonia Pettiford- Ed Alliance Teaching Artist

Working towards a culminating performance of “The WIZ,” students explore theatre concepts, as they hone their craft, including voice projection, ensemble skills, and as important, stage presence and confidence!  Progressively integrating singing, acting, and movement into staged musical scenes in preparation for …. “The Pura Belpre Proyect” by Teatro SEA

Re-enactment of Pura Belpre’s legendary ‘Bilingual Story Hour” giving new generation of children the opportunity to be a part of an interactive experience combined with puppetry.

Time: 3:15- 4:00


“Memorias de Loisaida” by Papel Machete

Culmination of 10 day cantastoria workshops on theatrical narrations through music and visual art.
